Fish The Surf with Lee Samson, a nationally-distributed
video illustrating the beauty and spirit of the timeless
craft of surf fishing, received four Bronze awards in
the 2010 Telly Awards. The Telly honors excellence in
local, regional, and cable television commercials and
programs, video and film productions, and works created
for the web.
The three-hour film represents a merger of passions
for Baltimore-based filmmaker and show host Lee "Samson"
Shapira. After a 30-year career behind-the-scenes as
a crew member in the regional film industry, Shapira
turned the camera inward as he embarked on a personal
journey to capture his experiences and share the stories,
nuances, and secrets of his lifelong obsession, fishing.
"The awards are a real highlight, but the achievement
lies in hearing from the thousands of people who have
viewed the film, enjoyed it, and learned something new
about fishing", said Shapira. "These awards are
a true reflection of the talent and commitment of the
many creative people who collaborated on the production,
and without whom it would not have been possible."
A fitting match to Shapira's distinctive creative
approach to the art and craft of surf fishing, the film
was awarded a Bronze Telly in the categories of How-To/Instructional,
Nature/Wildlife, Sound/Sound Design, and Videography/Cinematography.
This year, over 11,000 entries were submitted from the
US and around the world.
About the Telly Awards

showcases the best work of the most respected advertising
agencies, production companies, television stations,

THE SURF for The Maryland Gazette, calling
it "among the very best DVDs I've seen on fishing ..."
He continues, "...an outstanding DVD...that covers
just about all the secrets associated not just with
the surf of the ocean, but also that of bays, including
the Chesapeake and big rivers - and whether from shore,
piers and even from boat if one is casting and bottom
fishing."
